The Ear comes with 1 5751/12AX7 and 2 12B4as -- you're spoiled for choice with the 5751 variants, though some are quite pricey. I've not had the chance to loads of tube-rolling on mine but the 5751/AX7 seems to make the most difference in my experience, although the stock Sovtek sounds fine. I've only plugged in one set of 12B4as and found little sonic improvement but, again, I haven't been able to do any critical listening in a while.

So maybe leave the 12B4 alone and change the front? I was looking on line..yes you can spend some bucks

There's a thread, or two that discusses "tube rolling" in the EAR+ HD somewhere on this forum - just do a search - "seek and ye shall find."

From memory - I think the RCA 5751 Blackplates are the "tubes of choice."

The GE 5 star 5751 is a top choice. As far as the power tube the GE red labeled NOS are top notch and can be had for about $50 a pair.
