Hi All!

Is anyone using a Mapletree Ear+ or any of its variants to drive AKG 701 cans? I currently use mine to drive Sennheiser HD600 which it does very well but sometimes I would like a little less “polite” experience. The 701s reported have a lot of presence and drive. Grados don’t do it for me so I’m thinking about adding the 701s.

Best regards,
Steve

I used to have Mapletree Ear+ and AKG 701. The amp drove 701 pretty well...but it had a hint of straining. It was not as effortless as amping Grado. I think Mapletree Ear+ might have been tad bit underpowered for 701. The only amp I had problem with K701 was Woo3. It would clip around 12o'clock.

I have the Mapletree Ear + Purist HD and the K701, RS1, and 2005 DT990. I used to have the HD600. IMO the best match to the Mapletree is the RS1, having said that both the K701 or the DT990 sound awesome via the Mapletree. My wife prefers the K701 due to its more polite presentation and I prefer the DT990 because it is more involving/fun.

Two of us in my part of the world using Mapletree amps to drive 701s as well as Grados, seems to work well with no problem driving the phones. On many records I prefer the AKG/MAD combo to the Grados.
