Look like your Mac does not recognize Fubar3 DAC through the USB interface. You may want to try followings:
- It is preferable for USB port of Fubar3 DAC to connect directly to a dedicated USB port on the Mac without going through any USB hub (note USB keyboard operate as a USB hub). Other USB devices sharing the same USB bus with Fubar3 DAC might cause problem as well (you may have to remove other USB devices temporary).
- To reset all ports on your Mac, shut down the Mac and disconnect all connections including AC power supply from your Mac, wait for 5 minutes, then attach just the power cord and keyboard/mouse back to the Mac and power up the Mac. Reattach USB devices one at a time and check for USB devices displayed in window of System Profiler. Make sure that Fubar3 DAC appear as one of the devices on USB bus.
- Return to Audio MIDI Setup utility to configure the same device PCM2702 under Audio Devices tab again. Select PCM2702 as output device in the drop-down field "Properties for" and Source/Format fields should be enabled under section Audio Output for configuration.
- If the attempt still fail, then only way is to send in the Mac together with Fubar3 DAC to Apple Service Centre for repair. Forget about calling the hotline as the support staffs never give any useful answer and it will be a total waste of time.
When comparing Firestone products Fubar3 DAC (16-bit) with Splitfire DAC (24-bit), the difference in sound quality is only very slight. In fact many today's USB DACs are built on 16-bit device such as PCM 2702. Though modern Mac models allows both USB and Toslink for digital audio interface, most PCs are equipped with only USB interface and coaxial/optical interface requires extra high-end sound card or USB to coaxial/optical converter.

Now I'm really in trouble, aren't I? Again, on my other mac it worked right away, so it's not the unit. What do I need to do on the mac? Thanks again |
