Hello,

I have a Mac Pro and a external/DAC on the way. The Mac Pro has a toslink optical out that I could use and the DAC can also be used with a USB. My question is what would have better sound clarity? I know that toslink is still digital so if I used the toslink then the DAC on the sound card wouldn't be doing anything right?

Sorry If that sounded garbled or broken.

Thanks for any help.

You can really improve the sound quality with an external DAC.
Which DAC did you bought?
Yeah, using the optical output you'll be bypassing the internal DAC and amp ...

I bought the Headroom pimped out desktop amp.

here.

So I should probably use the optical output on my Mac Pro then?

^ No miniplug adapter needed. The Mac Pro have TOSLINK out, in comparison to the MacBook (Pro) and Mac mini.

I think you are going to be very happy. I just got a nice DAC (nothing like what you got though) for my iMac and it is awesome. Improves EVERYTHING around it.
