Hi folks,

I think (and hope) that this should be a simple question.

I just bought a half terrabyte external HDD, specifically the Seagate Freeagent-Pro, which is compatible with Macs, but does not come with any Mac Software.

This is supposedly not needed, since Macs can format the drive using disk utility, but this is an application I have not needed to use until now.

Any advice is much appreciated.

Launch 'Disk Utility' (/Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.app)
On the left hand side you will see your new extrenal drive showing up. Select it, go to the "Partition" tab on the right hand side and partition/format your drive.

That should be it

If you plan on using it on any Windows machines, make sure it is formatted in MS-Dos mode.

Heheheh... trust me, there is not a chance in hell it will be anywhere near a Windows machine!
