I think they are pretty different from just design. May have to re-read reviews for verification.

But believe the X-Can V8 first off uses tubes. Great for low impedance cans, and cannot drive 250 ohm Senn/Beyers to sufficient levels to satisfy many Head-Fiers.

Cantate is solid state and has more oomph and power.

Yes...

I found it to be GREAT with my low impedance D5000s and RS-1s.

But... it seemed underpowered with my Senn MHD-580s - 3+ O'clock on the POT to achieve reasonable volume.
