Quick question, hopefully a quick answer. Is the normal line/spk-out on the m-audio 5.1 as good as the high quality output on the av710 (or very close)? I got an AV710 for my new Linux rig but, long story short, the high-quality output basically doesn't work any more on the av710 in Linux thanks to recent ALSA changes. So I'm just using the standard output, which is nothing too special, according to this forum. So does the m-audio's normal, stereo output jack sound as good as the AV710's Wolfson-driven one, or close? I'm hoping for a yes so I don't have to buy the Audiophile.

thanks for that. of course, now I notice ALSA doesn't support it. aaggghhh. the closed source OSS does, but that has build problems galore. Now I'm stuck picking between:

Revolution 7.1
Audiophile 2496
SB Live! 24-bit
wait for the new Onkyo thing, pray it works with Linux

any opinions?
