i have been using my m-audio firewire from my computer and then i pipe the analog unbalanced out to my earmax pro...i was thinking about getting a dac with a digitial coax...to those m-audio firewire users out ther---how is the digital out section of the firewire? would it be an appropriate link bw my computer and the dac?

any ideas??? is the digital out any good??? i've been eyeing some usba dacs anyway so maybe its time to upgrade

I have a firewire solo and send the S/PDIF to a sony surround sound reciever. It functions well enough and it sounds cleaner than the balanced lineouts I was running to a Pioneer amp from the early 80s, but maybe its just the difference in amps. The volume pot
on my solo is janky so using the coax bypasses the control there. If you're really interested maybe I could run an A/B between analog/digi.
