I bought a secondhand MisterX built M^3 a few weeks back. Included with the amp were AD8065 and AD843 opamps. I've never worked with opamps before so I am asking here what to do before I break something. The opamps are socketed, so do I just gently rock them back and forth while pulling up to remove them? Kind of like rolling a tube? Also, do different opamps change the character of the sound similar to switching to different tubes in a tube amp? I plan on switching the the 843's out for the 8065's tonight to see what happens. Are there other opamps that are usable in an M^3. The specs of my amp can be found here: http://www4.head-fi.org/forums/showt...ighlight=m%5E3. Thanks.

Yeah...I use tweezers. Be careful, though.

Pretty much.

Use a chip puller if you can, they come in most cheap computer tool kits. It will hook under the ends of the opamp giving you better control. When rocking the chip, do so gently, and length-wise (front to back), otherwise you'll end up bending pins when one side releases from the socket.

go to the M3 site, http://amb.org/audio/mmm/
under 'power supply' has list of many usable opamps, AD8610 and OPA627 being most recommended.
