Luxman DA-200 or W4S Dac-2 - Need help finding the right DAC

What did you buy?
In Europe we have a few more options that are worth looking at. :)

Anyway, the DAC topic is a can of worms and it can give you a few long headaches. I studied the subject for two years (yep, years).

I use the Luxman DA-200, but primarily as a headphone amplifier.  Okay, I feed it from my laptop through a MF V-Link 192 USB to SPDIF converter to allow the Luxman to play 24/192 files, so I am using the DAC, but I really see it as my amp.  I also have a Violectric V200 amplifier which I have used variously with a Halide HD DAC and my Chord Qute HD.

For me, my HD800's sound absolutely wonderful through the Luxman; way ahead of the Violectric, I mean way ahead.

Get one if you can

Interested to hear more about your experience with the Luxman DA-200. Particularly a comparison with the Chord Qute HD.

I'm in Japan, so I have ample opportunities to pick up the Luxman. Have you used it with speakers? I've got a SET 300b tube amp and full range speakers, looking for a DAC to pair with them, and thinking about the Luxman. I can get the Chord for right around the same price though.....

I've heard that the Chord and Luxman share at least one trait: poor USB quality. Looks like both need a good USB to S/PDIF converter?

Any thoughts?
