Hoping some of you experienced travelers may know this one...

I just found a nice large travel bag -- It is at the airline’s maximum size of 62 inches. US airlines also have a 50 pound limit. This bag weighs about 12 pounds.

When this thing is full, will it likely exceed the 50 lb. limit?

Thanks.

That suitcase will easily exceed the 50 lb limit, and might even exceed the 70 lb extra weight for $XX limit. 50 lbs is what you'd reasonably pack in a small/normal suitcase...

That depends entirely on what you fill it with. I can easily fill a British 27 inch suitcase to way over 50lbs if I am carrying books or papers or to less than 20lbs if I am carrying clothes (excluding shoes) .

Why in the name of all that is holy do you want a bag that is so big

- how is that 62 inches measured by the way ? in the UK I think it is measured corner to corner (like TVs used to be).

Edit - length + width + height - so not as big as I had thought, still pretty big though

I think this must be an American perspective, I am 6' 2" , I used to drive a Fiat Uno and I always try to pack as little stuff as possible, one can always wash socks and grunts in a motel bathroom

Nine-day trip; two people; requiring clothes for warm, cold, rain, hiking and semi- formal dress. I wanted something big for shoes, boots, jackets, rain shells etc.

Yes to your edit. I see plenty of people use 62" bags, which is the largest allowed by US airlines. They must be paying extra.

My wife returned the bag. We will look for something smaller. Thanks to all (...well most of you anyway
