the HD280 is a great combo, high isolation and neutrality.

I've heard that AKG240's are a bit warm, and get used alot as headphones for vocalists. The v6/7506 has a midbass hump.

Unfortunately, most headphones that sound 'good' color the sound, and thats exactly what you want to avoid with music production. You want headphones that will tell you if something sounds bad.

while i absolutely _adore_ my 240s (thank you headfi and 240s supporters. i love these things), it seems far more suited to leisure than production. i suppose it really depends on the production environment and intentions, but its warm sound and semi open design would put it further down on my list for studio phones. but then, its all relative.

for studio phones, the hd280 has been reccomended to me more times than Sony v6...although i did read an interview with an engineer who trumped the v6 as a "colored" headphone ideal for CHECKING the mix, but not making it. people seem to say that the HP-1000 is the only suitable mixing headphone out there right now.
