On the PC, I have something like 14,000 songs in about 350GB. Most are WMA lossless but some are WAV (mainly the music files extracted from games and converted from OGG).

On the Mac, I'm about halfway through the re-rip process. 670 albums in Apple Lossless, 190GB on an offboard 500GB USB drive. Some of the CDs seem to have aged, or something, so they're no longer readable. Because using Itunes to convert from WMA lossless to Apple lossless results in a file that plays to slowly, I use Winamp to burn new CDs and then import those on the Mac.

In my case it's not so much listening to it all, as looking at the songs as ingredients in playlists. I do on-line parties using Shoutcast/Nicecast and, when you're making a stew, it's helpful to have a wide variety of ingredients.

If it were just for me, I could probably be happy with 300 or so CDs. Still, I keep collecting them--six more arrived today, good deals from Amazon used--and finding new things I like to add to the old.

Now up to 680 albums, 8,222 songs.
