I noticed recently that I am loosing bass on my Hifiman EF2, and thought the amp was going sour.
But I tried a different set of vacuum tubes, and the bass is back, but have a "whobbly" sound when bass is played, like it's being lazy. The tubes that ARE able to play bass are Philco's from '57.
The tubes that are loosing the bass are Hytrons Navy use JHY-6AK5's from '45 (and needless to say, HAVE seen war use).
Thing is, the old hytrons, sound SO much clearer and more natural, but with the bass slowly fading away (on both channels), it's starting to loose their charm.
What do I do? Can the tubes be salvaged or reconditioned in any way? They are NOT turning white on the getters, still very silver.
