I have been loving the SQ of the Q40 for 6 months now but last night the left ear went crackly for awhile and then just died. I have a V-Moda replacement cable and tested it on other phones and it is fine. Anyway, I called M-Audio but since it was purchased on Amazon by an unauthorized reseller, I have no warranty. I don't want to take the chance on another pair since I really babied the first pair. They only traveled between the padded audio drawer and the couch so I really don't trust the build quality at all.

I listen to EDM - Progressive House and Trance primarily. I love deep sub-bass and forward mids, rolled off treble and the Q40s did this to perfection to my ears. Is there something out there that has that type of sound sig for under $150? My backup pair is the Takstar Pro 80 (Gemini HSR 1000) and they really aren't even in the same league as the Q40s. Thanks for any suggestions you have. I was looking at the ATH A700X as a possibility.
