Hi, for the past year I've been using these computer speakers, and while they were a big improvement over the crappy(er?) speakers that came with my keyboard, they just aren't cutting it anymore. So I'm looking to upgrade to some bookshelf speakers like these ,in terms of price and design. This leads to my questions, first, what speakers would you recommend that are below 150USD? Second, what additional hardware would I need to hook them up to my computer? If it helps, my current sound card is the X-fi extreme Gamer. Thanks a lot.

For your budget, I would avoid a separates system. While it is certainly possible to put together something for under $150, I think that you could be more impressed with a good pair of 2.0 or 2.1 computer speakers, such as the Klipsch Promedia series. The Promedia 2.1 is an outstanding system for the price, I'd venture to say it's the best 2.1 bargain in computer speakers.

If you'd prefer to not have a subwoofer, there is also a 2.0 version of the Promedias. It won't have the gut-wrenching bass of the subwoofer system, but I actually prefer the vocal clarity from the 2.0 setup, the extra midbass driver makes a difference.

Both are available for a significant discount in Klipsch's clearance section.

thanks for the suggestion, the reason I wanted some bookshelf speakers is because my dad is going to give me two floor standing speakers and a receiver. And I figured I could use these as rears when they get here.

*EDIT* I just found out that I can have the receiver now, so that will not be a problem.
