hi. i've used the SR-60 and the 60-i for quite a few years now, and i LOVE them (to the point that they lose all the lettering due to daily use lol)

but it's getting more obvious to me that it doesn't handle big complex passages very well ("dense", should i say?) and i'm in the market for "bigger" sounding phones (circumaural, preferably open for obvious reasons)

i have AKG/senn in my mind? or should i just go on climbing the grado route?

my budget is 300-350 dollars, and i'm planning to use it from an ipod touch/thinkpad via fiio E5.

appreciate your help very much!

HD-580 + an amp

Wait for the 580's at a very good price and then spend the rest on an amp.

I have the SR80s and find my A700 to compliment them beautifully. The A700 have a "larger" sound and better bass. The highs aren't as good but there certainly not bad. Overall I prefer the Grados, but the ATs are closed, comfortable and sound great for the price, about $100.00 right now. You could then spend the rest on music, or a portable or home amp. A Millet would be a good choice for them both.

K701 + desktop amp.
Welcome to the super detailed, audiophile grade, wide sound stage headphone.
But for simplicity, nothing can beat Grado SR60.
