I bought my hd555's in June this year, and I absolutely love them. However, I will soon be going off to college, and I sure do not want to be bothering people with the open ear hd555 late at night. So I am looking for some closed headphones. They should be:

Closed
$150-$200
Comfy (at least as comfy as my hd555)
will mostly use for music and movies primary, and gaming secondary
will be powered from a extrememusic x-fi from computer
does not need an amp, but I might consider buying one that is $200

So far I am looking at the:
denon d2000

any opinions?

hmm... if i buy new headphones, I want to have a bigger improvement than that.

Also, how are the dt880's? They are half open half closed. How much sound leaks out?

i'm kind of interested in this thread. I'm a college kid also and I use either my sf5p or ah-d1001k all the time.

The reason this peaks my interest is that my next large headphones (probably not for another year) will be either the ah-d2000 or a beyer dt880.

Which 'phones win in sq and soundstage.

Would either be significantly better with a $100 amp?

Sounds like that is the only place to look....the D2000 is getting all the love in that price range.

wait, since when have the d2000 been in the $150-$200 range?

aren't they closer to $300?

The best movie cans I had were the DT880 05 model. dialogue is uncannly crisp and audbile. They also rock for gaming, but are only semi closed.

I, too, am interested in the sound leakage on the DT 880's '05 Edition... Anyone got a hint for us?

Still looking for more options, and after reading a little it seems like the d2000 and dt880 need an amp to really sound great. I am not looking to buy an amp. So still looking for good headphones in the $150-200 range that not not require an amp.

Well, i just got my BD 770's/80 and they sound great. Very little sound leakage, and are actually pretty good without an amp and using an ipod (i would say at around 75% volume). With any other sort of more powerful player (a dedicated CD Player, Reciever) it sounds awesome and plays at full volume.

PS- Full volume is what i consider the loudest you can listen to something and still enjoy it / not bleed form your ears.
