Hey guys. I came to this forum to research for a new pair of headphones, everyone here seems incredibly well informed and much, MUCH more knowledgable than me in regards to headphones and sound quality. To give you a bit of a background I mainly use my headphones for:

- Voice communications (TeamSpeak, Skype, etc) when playing games

- The actual games sound, I love to be immersed when I play

- A lot of music and also movies/general videos online

Budget - My budget is £150, tops (around $230).

Source - At the moment a Sony Vaio laptop, will be building and using a desktop soon though which will include a decent sound card. I don't own any amp/DAC and can't really afford to budget them in at the moment.

Preferred Type of Headphone - I much prefer an over-ear headphone, I find headphones which touch my ears very uncomfortable, even over short periods of time. Comfort is a big thing as I'll be using these for 6-8 hours a day.

Preferred tonal balance - I do like my bass but listen to a wide range of music, so I think a more balanced range would be better.

Past headphones - Tritton AX 720's http://goo.gl/YxeVby

Please don't judge me for buying these overpriced headphones, I used to play a lot of consoles which is why I purchased these, do not play any console anymore though which is why I'm looking for a new pair of headphones.

RHA MA450i http://goo.gl/GSZBnp

I still use these everyday for music from my phone.

Preferred Music - I listen to quite a wide range of music including electronic, some rock and metal and other genres.

Some examples of the main type of songs I listen to:

So fair the headphones I've been looking at are the DT 770's/990's and the ATH-M50's. My concern is though that without a DAC/Amp I may not get the best quality I can.

Thanks very much for reading and any help is greatly appreciated it

Out of the headphones you've been looking at, you'll probably most enjoy the ATH-M50.
The DT770 CAN do more quality bass when pushed with an EQ and when properly amped, but straight out of the laptop, the M50 will be the better performer.

This is especially considering you own those RHA's which are very bassy (more bassy than most headphones).
I wouldn't bother with the DT900 - it probably won't give you the bass you want.
