With a budget around $1000 I'm looking for a DAC upgrade from my NFB10ES. Since 10ES is kind of an older version of the current NFB28 I don't think anything from Audio-gd less than NFB7 or M7 is worth it, yet my budget and desktop space tends to deny the two big boys.
My main requirement would be a balanced DAC with high-res capability, not really strong demand by today's demands. Preferrably something with a solid preamp functionality would be great, if possible I'm willing to raise the budget a bit more (since then I can get rid of my head-amp and use power amp from DAC).
I have just taken a look on W4S DAC-2. It looks solid but seems to have a reputation of being analytical, while I'm trying to move to a bit more laid-back sound.
I guess the plan is really to gather some valuable inputs right now, and wait for the release of the Yggy to lower the price of other DACs (hopefully...)
