I'm not at all an audiophile, and I don't really know all that much about audio quality, but I've gotten tired of listening to music from my laptop speakers. I already own a decent pair of headphones (in my opinion), but I've learned that I enjoy listening to music without being tied down, so I'm looking for some also decent speakers that I can listen to from my laptop.

I'm a college student living in a dorm so I can't have anything with a subwoofer, and I'd also like it if the speakers were relatively small in size. Small enough that they don't take up too much space, as I don't really have too much space on my table to fit. Quality is important of course, but price takes precedence here as I don't have too much money to spend.

I've done a bit of research and shopping around already and I found that I really like how the Creative GigaWorks T20 speakers look, but they're outside my price range. So maybe something similar to that for cheaper? I know my options are pretty limited because of my price range, but unfortunately there's not much I can do about that :/

Thanks a lot for any help you can provide!

The SoundScience QSBs sound very good for their size. Impressive amount of bass from such small cubes. They are USB powered so you would just use your laptop volume control for them. They also sound very bright and detailed and they seem very good for money. I am in the UK and they are available for £19 in places. They used to cost about £80 which I don't think they are worth.
I have the creative labs T40 and I was thinking of recommending the T20 for you until I saw you say that they are a little too expensive. There is also the creative labs T10 and I think that they sound a little bit better than the SouncScience QSB but they are quite a bit larger. Because they are active speakers, they do go quite a lot louder too and they have a headphone socket. If you are tight on space, the QSBs are tiny and will be a very good improvement for a laptop.
