I've being using my on board soundcard with my ATH-AD700. In the next weeks im planning to buy a Plasma screen and connect it to my PC through DVI.
I need a soundcard mainly to watch movies. I was looking at the prices of the Xonar Essence Stx, but I'm not sure that I will take advante of it, since I understand that my ATH-AD700 do not need an amp.

Do you think that a cheap Xonar card (less that USD 50) will be enough for these headphones?

If you have good headphones then you want the best source you can afford.
Have you considered an external DAC/amp combo?
