Suggest that you can consider about other small brands of headphones, their price is cheaper but the sound pretty good.

Ordering outside EU is a pain. You have to pay import duty  (20% of  (price of good + shipping cost)).

AKGs are cheaper in EU than in US.
There were complaints about K550 causing pain while wearing long hours

Anyone with more suggestions, what is nice for movies, gaming and music. just a good allround headphone. I mostly listen to classic rock but also to other genres. I really want a over the ear headphone, I like that concept a lot.

Are the AKG 550's suitable for Rock/Metal? I mostly read people defy their sound as 'Smooth' and 'Good for slow-paced music'?

The AKG K550 are not really a "warm" sounding headphone, but in general the over all sound quality is nice.
Not a "full" bass headphone for someone that likes a lot of thump in their music.
Best if used with a headphone amplifier with a low output impedance.

Niels,

Have you check out the Beyerdynamic DT770?
I've ordered these today for 150 euro.
They should be really nice for rock/metal.
I'll let you know what i think of them.

Thanks Angel for your reply

How do the hd 598/dt 770/dt 880/dt 990/k550 compare to each other if you don't use an amp?

I own the DT770s, DT880s & DT990s, they really should be used with a decent headphone amplifier to bring out their best. So if your not investing in a decent headphone amplifier, the HD598 and K550s seem like the better choice.

Can E17 or E10 drive DT 770, DT 880 & DT 990?

I might get an amp later, what would a decent amp cost? I would like to buy a pair of headphones now and invest in an amplifier in a month or 2 probably. How do the HD 598, Dt 770/880/990 compare to each other? I am really interested in the differences.

I recently bought Fiio E17 (DAC/amp). I am happy with it. I paid 129 Euros for E17 in amazon
Are you gonna use the amp with your computer or ipod or mobile phone? You could buy dac/amp combination, if you use it with computer or else an amp is enough. What is your budget for the amp?

I am not sure whether i'm buying an amp or not, I would like to have headphones that are also quite good without an amp, so I can buy headphones now and possibly an amp later, amp budget would be around 100 euros which is about 135 dollars currently, but as i said I am not sure about the amp. I am still not sure which headphones to pick though, I am considering the HD 598, and DT 770/880. How good are these and how does the impendance 32,250 or 600, affect the DT 880 in terms of sound quality and the necessity of an amp?

The E17 and E10  can drive the 32-Ohm and 250-Ohm versions, 600-Ohm might be pushing it.
