Hey all..
 
Im looking for a pair of open eared headphones that will sound good for general gaming, a wide range of music.. from Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, to Nine Inch Nails.  I know a 100 dollar headphone will not outperform a 300 dollar pair.. but im looking at the best i can get FOR around 100ish.
 
My motherboard (MSI G45) has a built in AMP and Creative sound blaster cinema / SBX Pro (whatever that means) so im hoping i wont need an AMP and ill get decent audio without the use of a sound card.
 
I was looking at Sennheiser HD 518 with a Asus Xonar  but someone mentioned there not good for Rock music.  Will just a normal person that isnt an audiophile notice it?  My ears are not trained.. i been going off a g35 for a few years now which i know isnt the best audio quality.  
 
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Grado SR80i is probably the best you can get without an amp at that price point, and it's great for most rock.

But SR80i's suck for gaming.
 
OP, pick up the 518's they'll sound fine for rock music.

Oof, I totally forgot about that. They do suck for gaming.
