I'm looking for a new toy to play with, I'm considering ATH-W5000 or ATH-AD2000. I currently have HD600 and loving it but want to try out new can, possible another brand and decided on Audio Technica. I listen to everything but pop, rock, and jazz. I understand they are complete different kind of can but wonder which is better for me.

Maybe some Beyers? Although I think you're on track with the Audio Technicas.

What is your price range?

I really want to try out Audio Technica (Considering AD2000, W5000, and ESW10JPN) and do not like the look of Beyers. Budget < 500 preferred.

AD2000 is out, unless somehow you can find em used for that price. W5000 is out also, I don't think I've seen em for 500 used either.

ESW10JPN I guess then?

Yes, I'm considering used on all 3. No way I will pay full price on W5000, maybe on AD2000. There are two W5000 at for sale forum +/- 500.

With no price range to go by and given your music tastes, you might consider looking into Grados.

Personally, the Grado sound is not my first choice but my exposure is limited (I really want to hear some Reference Series Grados). Also, I don't listen to pop/rock on headphones much. I mention them because they are highly regarded for rock music.

The comfort issue with the Grado bowls is another thing to consider. I suppose you can get used to darn near anything but it's the time that it takes to get used to something that is the deal-breaker for some. I guess if I liked a headphones sound enough I could force myself to get used to the way they feel, or modify them like I did with my AKG's.
