As you can see here, the 2k-4k region is seriously aggressive.

However, I love everything else about the headphones. The lows, low-mids, and highs, not to mention clarity and width, are all just about perfect for me.

But I would really love a way to tame the upper mids, preferably in a portable-ish manner. Am I dreaming in hoping such a product exists (portable-ish and inexpensive)?

Note: for a variety of reasons, using EQ on the source is not an option.

The only thing I can think of would be to try rolling some other ear pads.
Many cheap pads can be found on e-bay, particularly from China, where they can be found for sometimes less than $5.

Going in blind won't be easy, so you might have to measure your headphone and see what other popular headphones have a similar size, and search for pads for those headphones too.

I would try to get a pad that is a little deeper and with a slightly smaller opening.
More depth usually increased bass and treble. Smaller opening usually increases bass or chokes mids.
