Hi, I'm looking for a pair of cans to replace my Sennheiser 558s.
 
The 558's have great soundstage and clarity but I find that the bass is lacking and it seems to be a very neutral headphone.
 
I'll be using my headphones with my iPhone 6 extensively. 
 
I've been looking at the Sennheiser HD 600s. A few questions:
 
(1) Would you recommend that I try a different brand of headphone since I find the bass to be lacking in the 558s?
 
(2) Would I need an amp or "DAC" if I decided to go with the 600s?
 
(3) Would an amp or DAC improve the bass or sound of my current setup?

The HD 600 is a 300 Ohm can and requires an amp.
 
In addition I would certainly not call the HD 600 (or HD 558) mobile cans--too big and open.

Hi there,

My mobile rig is now just an iPhone 6 with a CIEM's and NAD Viso HP50's.

I tested several DAC/amps and did not find them to significantly increase sound quality.

Let me know if you want more info on how I got to this stage.
