Hey all,

The title says it all. I'm especially looking for excellent positional accuracy/clarity and cues.

Headphones I have already considered and rejected for various reasons:
Sennheiser HD558/598
Philips Fidelio X1

I'm now leaning towards the Superlux HD668B with various mods but its not ideal.

Appreciate any suggestions!

Cheers

Edit: Forgot to mention, preferably under $200.

Audio Technica ATH-AD900X open headphones.
You might find a good deal on used, on eBay.

Why reject the HD558s?

Good suggestion but online it says that the ATH-AD900X unfortunately doesn't have a detachable cable.

HD558/598 detachable system uses a 2.5mm twist lock jack which doesn't give me the customization options I want.

Anyone have any other options?

AKG K701, K702, Q701 (and K612) all definitely require amping.

You should put all your requirements in your OP, its hard to recommend anything since we don't even know why you rejected those headphones.

I thought my requirements were too specific already haha. Well I explained why the sennheisers were rejected above and the philips are a bit too expensive and I don't like the idea of the non-replaceable ear pads. If I was to add another requirement it would be open backed but that goes hand in hand with excellent positional accuracy.

And to the other posts: Unfortunately, as was mentioned, all those AKG headphone require amping. But thanks for the help!

Anyone have any other ideas?

At cel4145: Thanks heaps for the suggestion! They do look like a great option and tick all of my boxes, they're at the top of my list! Still looking for more suggestions though. Anyone else have any other ideas?

A lot of the open headphones in your budget range require amping. Sort of left yourself with almost no options with that and your specific detachable cable requirement.

To cel4145: I see what you're saying, although I was hoping for a few more options. The only other one that I have found is potentially the upcoming X2. I am going to have to think about where I have to compromise, but at this stage the HP200 is looking like the best option. Thanks

To everyone else: Still open to suggestions!

Cheers
