I'm not looking to break the bank here, just a step up from these generic USB-powered 2.0 speakers that really suck. I'd use them mainly for watching movies and listening to music. I'd need to easily be able to drive them from a computer line-out (I don't have a receiver). 2.0 or 2.1 are fine; I'm not a big fan of booming bass though. I mostly listen to metal music.

[Lazarus Short]

Easy, hunt down a set of Proton 300/301 powered speakers. They are two-way, bi-amped, and about 100 watts per channel. Tuner/preamp included. Mine serve me very well.
