For my new internal NEC 3500A Dual Layer drive. I have been using Nero in the past for my CD/RW photo backups. Is there anything better out there? I don't do any video editing (yet, anyway), so most of my work is burning digi photos and music. Is Nero it??? Should I stay or should I go? Any input greatly appreciated.

Mac OSX! No software required. Put in a blank disk. It mounts on your desktop as a disc icon. Drag whatever you want on the disc to the icon. Grab disc icon and drag it to the trash. The trash icon will have already turned into a burn icon. CD burns. You're done. No program was opened!

I used Roxio for a while, then went right back to Nero. For simple burning tasks, it's the best.

Last I checked the Mac OSX was not available as a windows program.

Stick with Nero. It is still the best windows program out there.

I absolutely agree. Ahead NERO is by far the best Swiss Army knife approach to complete digital content recording for the Microsoft Windows platform. I just tried CDBurnerXP Professional (open source, freeware) and it just doesn't make it easier nor does it work all the time. Stick with NERO. You'll be happier with its' simplicity and effectiveness. Don't mess with the best product of its kind in the business.

Your NEC 3500A is a great Double Layer DVD +/- R/RW and CD-RW drive. It rates extremely high on some computer hardware sites. Ahead NERO and DVDShrink both support Double Layer burning. The combination is unbeatable. Ahead has the technical savvy and resources to support a very large majority of CD and DVD burners on the market wheras an open source and freeware program may or may not have that same position. Think about that.

Stick with Ahead NERO...but patch it religiously. Don't drop the ball on the future monthly patches and updates. Also, update the firmware on your NEC 3500A burner periodically. Don't forget to do both.

Take care. Enjoy your drive. I'm looking into the benefits of the Double Layer burning capability next year when I build my own custom desktop PC.
