My dad is looking for a 5.1 home theater system with this criteria:
 
 
-Budget: $2000 max
 
-Music preference: Pop, rock, international, dance
 
-Home theater speaker system
 
-Source files: MP3s and CDs
 
-iPod dock connection interface
 
-HDMI interface
 
-Blu-ray and DVD interface
 
-Tuner
 
-VCR interface
 
-Tape deck
 
-Turntable interface
 
 
I'm not very well-versed in the world of speakers and home theater systems, so any help is much appreciated.

Roughly, a combination of these components would fulfill the above criteria
 
1. HDMI AVR with tuner function
2. By VCR do u mean recording stuff? If so combine the Blu Ray player, DVR, digital music/movies media player into a single HTPC "one box rules all"? This would also bring internet radio, youtube, etc as a source for fun times

3. A phono preamp (am assuming your dad has a TT on hand?)
4. Fronts, Center, Rear channel speakers and an active sub
