1. Need a balanced USB DAC/Preamp to connect to a power amplifier.
The DAC1 Pre is perfect, but out of my price range.

2. I'm considering the EMU 0404 USB
Is it possible to connect a power amplifier DIRECTLY to the balanced outputs of the EMU 0404?
I realize TRS > XLR cables would need to be employed, that's not a problem.

Let me know if you have other suggestions!

The emu 0404 is the cheapest option , if you want to spend more you could also consider the cambridge audio dac magic plus or asus xonar essence one. It is possible to connect the emu0404 to a power amp, you can use trs to trs ,ts to ts , trs to xlr , ts to rca it depends what inputs the power amp has.

Yes, before I decided to downsize to an HT receiver for my speaker rig, I used DIY TS to RCA cables to connect it to my original unbalanced power amp. The level pot on the main out controls the output over the full range so there's no problem controlling volume from the 0404USB.

I picked up an EMU 0404 USB for a good price over the weekend. I also have a 5v ELPAC power supply I plan on using with it, should sound good!

Thanks for the information and input.
