Been using Sennheiser MX500 buds for years, now have a cheap Android phone and the volume is capped - I can barely hear music over traffic noise.

I've decided to invest in my first pair of IEMs. Top priority is noise isolation and I read Shures are great for this with their foam buds. I've heard the Beyerdynamic 101 iEs sound great but noise isolation might not be the best and cable noise can be an issue.

Recommendations? For use with my cheap phone I can't justify too much over £50-£70. I listen to rock mostly, some of it quite rough-around-the-edges sounding tbh! I have Grado SR-60s and love their sound with all my music.

+1 to which Android phone, as if you have the right one, you can root and install CyanogenMod(7). It has a built in DSP manager that has 5 band EQ that can be customised fully, along with some virtual room, bass boost, and dynamic range compression options. (I came from a very Droid oriented place...)

The great thing about the Apple In-Ear Headphones is that you don't need to EQ anything for music to sound good with them; they already sound great when the music player's EQ is on flat.

The phone I have is an Orange San Francisco / ZTE Blade. I do have a custom ROM but it's not the one mentioned above.

I actually prefer the idea of blocking out background noise first before turning up the volume. The lower I am able to keep the volume the better for my ears after all!
