Hey guys. I'm in the market for a decent subwoofer that would work with a pair of Tannoy Reveal 501As. Purpose is for music listening. Budget under $300 I guess. Would I need an amplifier to make this combination work on a macbook pro? Thanks for the help.

Most home audio subwoofers come with a built in amp.

Is this for neafield listening? Or filling a whole room with bass? If the latter, how big is the room? For example, this Outlaw Audio M8 is a great 8" subwoofer that would work well with a desktop setup and could work well in a bedroom. But if you are trying to fill a large room with bass or are a major bass head who wants massive amounts of overemphasized bass, you probably need a bigger sub.

Here's a CNET review of the M8: http://news.cnet.com/8301-13645_3-20042164-47.html With the M8, you would have to split the analog out from your MacBook and run it to both your speakers and the sub.
