I have been purchasing more and more vinyl and am looking to replace my old pioneer turntable. I have an older Rotel preamp that is working fine. I have no interest in USB recording or anything of that nature. I just want a nice, bare bones, great sounding kit. I have no problem purchasing used or vintage equipment, but budget is around $300, can stretch for the right piece of gear.

(this is for my home hi-fi system, not headphones. Its a Bryston 4b-st (250wpc power amp), bryston preamp, rotel phono pre)

At that price the Rega Planar 1 or Planar 2 and Project Essential III are great turntables.

Also look at the Project Debut Carbon, if you shop around you might find one for around $300.

I agree with Oscar, those are probably the best options in that price range by a good margin
