I am looking to experiment and to get a good sounding quality Opamp to try in my Altoids Headphone Amp which uses 2x9V batts i.e 18V.

What I am looking for:

1. Something that can give me a nice detailed sound.
2. Something thats close to a Tube Amp sound but doesnt has to be exact.
3. Something that doesnt require soldering but will simply plug into the socket
i.e 8 PIN.

4. Has to be able to handle 18V and bit over
5. Good on batteries

What I am or might consider, pls feel to give your opinion:

1. OPA2132
2. OPA2134
3. OPA 2228
4. NE5532

Thanks

i believe you want dual opamp chips right?

LM4562?
or the LME49720...
not good at describing sound but they perform well

Whats the diff between a dual opamp and a single opamp, is a dual stereo and a single mono ?

Is the OPA2227 or 2228 Dual or Single, also one of my amps has a JRC45556, is this dual or single ?

For stereo you have 2 channels (left and right) so you need 2 amplifiers,

in a dual opamp (OPA2227, JRC4556 etc) they are both in the same plastic casing, so you have 2 amps in one chip

If you use OPA627 etc they are single opamps so just one amp in each chip, and you need two chips for stereo.

cheers
