Hi all:

I am currently looking for a good set of computer speakers for my dorm room. I'd like to avoid getting a subwoofer, as my workspace is rather limited at the moment.

I've looked at a couple of different options so far, including Altec Lansing and Creative. I'd like to avoid Bose, as I've heard their computer speakers and headphones are grossly overpriced for the sound quality experienced.

The price range on these two are vastly different, but I'd like to spend below $100 dollars if possible. I listen to all genres of music, including rock, alternative, hip-hop, EDM, rap, etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Let me know if you need any more information. Thanks!

Best Regards,

Sean

Dayton Audio B652s speakers and a low cost speaker amplifier.
Check the website Parts Express.

I recommend the same thing as the above poster.

Better off than using the money on cheap desktop brand speakers.

One more thing. Check out this review and this discussion about the Dayton/Lepai setup:

Judging from what I've seen in reviews on YouTube and the various reviews I've read across the internet, I'm leaning towards setting this up.

I am concerned with two things, how I will get these back home easily and how difficult they are to set up in the first place.

Easy to setup. Just need to connect the Lepai to your computer, and then run speaker wire from the Lepai to the speakers.

I have no idea about your ability to transport things. You'll have to decide that for yourself :)

I was leaning towards getting Creative T20's because they were smaller, but I'd still like to get good sound. T40's are too large for my dorm room desk unfortunately and the Dayton's will barely fit

If you can afford the Creative T40s, you should look into getting the Pioneer SP-BS22-LR. Better sounding speakers than the Daytons. Or, depending on your sound card, an internal sound card or external DAC for better SQ.
