I'll spend $200-$300 MAX, but preferably $200. Headphones (Over the ear) along with a portable amp.
I mainly listen to EDM, Rock, Metal, Screamo. Not sure which pair to get since so many are recommended or common: Senn-Heiser, Bose, Audio-Technica, etc..
Something with decent bass, sound quality and sound itself, as well as durability and ohms. I'm not techy with headphones so, need some help.

Generally, people on these forums have a Bose prejudice; be warned. My personal recommendation would be a CmoyBB and a Grado SR80i with bowl pads (If you have larger ears, these won't be circumaural).

Since you have asked for a portable amp, I'm going to assume you will be out in public with these headphones. You really don't want open headphones (like Grados) when you are out in public. More importantly, *I* don't want you to be wearing open headphones if I'm anywhere near you out in public. Open headphones means that everyone around you will also hear your music - and trust me, they don't want to hear your music.

The typical recommendation at this price is the Audio Technica ATH-M50. Personally, I didn't like the ATH-M50 - I found it muddy. HOWEVER, plenty of other people love the ATH-M50, including people that I respect - so maybe they are just not my cup of tea. I liked the Sennheiser HD280 Pro better - and they are cheaper. Another option might be the Beyerdynamic DT770 (32 Ohm version).

Hi,

You should also consider:

SoundMagic HP 100
AudioTechnica A900X
Yamaha HPH Pro 500
Shure Srh 840
AKG K550

For EDM, Rock and Metal I would pick HPH Pro 500. Most Yamaha headphones and speakers I've heard match those genres really well and based on some measurements and some reviews of the Pro 500 they seem to preserve that special sound signature. (Warm, punchy, detailed and forgiving)

Best Luck!

ATH-M50's in that price range.

Also, it is well known that Bose beats Beats and Beats blows Bose.

That being said, they both suck.

Thanks for your replies. That ATH-M50.. Might go with it, but anyone else recommends anything else? I'm guna be spending a MAX of $300 total ( or around $200, would be very nice) of the headphones and portable amp.

I really like the Mad Dogs in the time I had them, though you would have to stretch the budget a bit as they retail for $400. Or you could also look for them on the For Sale forums here on Head Fi, I'm sure you can find a good deal on them.

What about these?

Audio-Technica ATH-PRO700MK2

I'm not familiar with them, looks like they are probably more bass-oriented than the ATH-M50's if they are "DJ Monitors" as opposed to studio monitors.

Bump... what about these?
Sennheiser HD 558 Headphones
Sennheiser HD 598 Headphones (Burl Wood Accents)
Beyerdynamic DT-990-Pro-250
Beyerdynamic DT-880 Pro Headphones (250 Ohm)
JVC HARX900

Aside from HARX900, which I haven't heard yet, DT990 works best with your genres as it has enough bass for EDM and enough treble for rock whilst integrating the ranges pretty well.

This headphones don't provide any isolation. And sub bass is by no means powerful in most open headphones.
Hd558/598 are smooth and pretty forward but lacks bass for your tastes. Anyway good headphones.
DT990/DT880 need extra amplification. DT880 is neutral and slightly bright. Its bass is fast but weak if you are looking for a V shaped (more fun) sound signature.
DT990 have big bass but are really analytical headphones that can sound thin and sibilant with most recordings, specially with vocal recordings.
