southern all stars (nothing beats a bunch of old geezers singing :P)
mr. children (ballads i think)
misia (rnb)
ken hirai (rnb)
love psychdelico (very western style jpop)
aikawa nanase (jpop rockish)

theres a whole heap more but i cant think of them atm

for the cheesy theres the checkers from the 80s :P

I think someone mentioned on where to start for j-music?
I think ballads from x-japan are great or if you are into something heavier indie bands specially the visual keis are a good start imo.
Theres also larc en ciel which i think have quite a unique rock sound and real enjoyable. Most people dont like them cause they are too 'mainstream' pff :P.

I second that motion!

I also recommend Spitz... they're pretty soothing/calming (male).

OMG nobody's said Kiroro yet?
Wonderful Day (ah haha)
Piano
Sakana Ga Sora wo Aoku Toki
Beni wo Musume

The Indigo's my favorite, though. Kinda sucks, I was dropping my friend off at the airport so he could go to Otakon. And I went home and found out the Indigo was gonna be at freaking Otakon ...
