Why is this taking off (for a D-33)? Is this the new flavor of the month? I see these go for $10, $15 all the time.

I don' t get it.

There's something about getting the original box and accessories that seems to get collectors salivating.

Like this D-5 a few days ago.

197.50, that's twice as much as some of the others that were in good shape with all the accessories, but no boxes.

Why pay so much more for old cardboard?

[edit: and to think that I threw out my D-5/D-14 battery case w/box a few years ago because I never used it. Sigh]

I'm not sure if the other two bidders are aware of where the D-33 stands as far as highly sought after PCDPs. As it has been mentioned by Earwax the sight of a original box with all accessories seems to be a driving factor in this particular auction. Things might have been different if there were no original box.

the d33 is useless as a portable. i have one, and bought it new when they came out. it still works, but don't think you can use it on the go, it skips at a pin drop. also, the headphone out is grainy and bass heavy. the line out isn't too bad, but not very engaging.

you are better off with even a mid-level used component cd player, because the d33 really isn't portable. luggable yes, portable nope.

I'm going to find out what all the fuss is about regarding D33s in a couple of weeks time, as am [hopefully] getting one on loan...

It'll have to go a long way to beat the others in my [dwindling] collection ~ but it may have what it takes
