I just finished building my balanced amp. It uses a long-tail-pair with a CCS tail, and plate resistors now. I want to switch to CCS's on the plate, but am faced with the problem of "locking" the plate voltage, as it is direct coupled to the next stage and a precise voltage matters

The left one is what I have now. I KNOW the plate resistors are too small for a 6sn7, but wanted to pull a bunch of current. The right is the proposed design. Still sucking down plenty of current, but with a 110k-ohm plate load on the tube.



Does anyone think this will work? This is up on audio-asylum too.

What does the rest of the design look like? Often, in the attempt to eliminate coupling caps, people end up with more and lower quality caps in the signal path through PS interaction. Have you accounted for all of the signal current lops?
