Hi All,

I've had my AH-D1001's for a number of years now and I love them! They are a good weight (I like lighter headphones that don't compromise too much), and the sound quality for the price has been great. I'm looking for suggestions for the next logical upgrade that share some of the properties of these Denons, but build on them.

I listen to a wide range of music, from heavy metal, to pure acoustic instrumentals, to drum and bass.

I apologize if I haven't provided enough information for a good recommendation; just let me know if I can go into more detail or answer some important questions to help.

Thanks!

Ah yes that would be important wouldn't it! I'm looking to spend under $500.

Hm, portable? Or at home? Maybe a Mad Dogs by Mr.Speakers with a Schiit Magni/Modi(used at home)

I would bring them with me places, but it would always be a setup with a laptop (not on a bus etc). Semi-portable as in I wouldn't be afraid to put them in a laptop bag with lots of space.

It's really hard to find an upgrade to the Denon's:)  I've had mine since 2009 and haven't found anything that beats them in portable sound. You could look into the new Smaller Sennheiser's,  Your price range is great so you can find a great set for sure.  Most likely it will be a full size set, I've yet to find "Small set" that best's the Denon's.
Check out Senn Momentum, could be what you're after?

Well hey I have exactly the same 'problem'. I've had mine for just over 3 years now and I still love them too. Just looking a bit worn now. I checked out the Senn Momentum as a previous poster mentioned in store today. They are absolutely beautiful. The cups look much smaller than the Denon's but are ever more comfortable to my surprise. Even easier to drive than the Denon's as all I had with me was my Zune HD which doesn't have much power but output volume was noticeably louder. Unfortunatly too bassy for me. I would regard them more of a replacement rather than an upgrade.

Reading all these headphone reviews is driving me crazy. Someone just tell me what to buy lol. I intend also to buy my first portable amp probably fiio E17 so I can use my Denon's with my ZuneHD. I spent 85 british pounds on the Denons' 3 years ago, my budget is 200 to 250 now.

Cheers,

I have the same Denons and wonder is there anything to go for under 200-250$ (could be used ones)? Already swapped the cable to pure silver one, but haven't added the dynamat inside, well at least not yet :D
