To answer my own question, I got a reply from David:

If the balanced inputs are used, then both balanced and single-ended outputs are active. If the unbalanced input is used, then only the single-ended output is active. If both outputs are used at the same time, it's best to keep the combined impedance at 600 or below (loads in parallel).

I've sold my MKV, but now the MKVII is out of stock

It should be back next week. BTW, does anyone compared the MKVII with Audio-gd Roc? I know the latter is almost $900, but I'd really buy something I'll keep for a long time. Any more balanced amps?

No surprise it is out of stock,its one hell of an amp.

HM. Those are all much more expensive than the LD MK VII pekingduck.
I think the amps that currently use 2x3pin XLR sockets should give an option when you order to have a 4-pin XLR and 1/4" jack socket instead.
