I think my vegan friend might be approving of this design. The Moo amp, I like it.

Do keep in mind that design-wise the LD have active pre-amp outs while the Lunchbox doesn't. The tubes on the LD are also directly heated triodes while the Lunchbox's 6N3P and 6N24P are indirectly heated (some members here are quite partial to the DHT design, apparently they give higher distortion in second harmonics). Another important difference is that the LD is transformer-coupled while the Lunchbox is OTL as far as I know. I've never seen the inside of the Lunchbox but somehow I suspect the wiring to be done point-to-point (it doesn't look like there would be space for a PCB and power supply, I could be wrong though). The LD is capable of handling both high and low impedance loads while the 'Lunchbox I' was only designed for high impedance headphones, to that end, the LD's designer Sword Yang specifically mentioned that it was voiced with the HD600. Reliability-wise, the LD is on its fourth or fifth edition (depending on who's counting) and the latest offering seems to be trouble-free so far.

When all is said and done, the LD has such an active community of owners here that support should be a lot better than Lunchbox. Last I checked there are a handful of threads just on LD tube rolling (or what little there is) alone. I've never seen an impression thread on tuberolling the Lunchbox.

The Darkvoice is $300 shipped while the LD2++ is $188 shipped so they're definitely in different price ranges.

Ya but they aren't in the $2,000 price range either.

Very true but in your original post you specifically said NOT $300

I'm sure we're all victims of this sort of "budget creep" though. Just $50 more buys a better one...and then $50 more..and then $50 more. Eventually that original budget is way out of sight

I'm kinda in the same boat and based on what I've read I would go with the Darkvoice. The Lunch Box doesn't have as much community support here at head-fi, the little dot 2++ is being discontinued, and the LD's replacements are untested.
