ok the only heaphones i have that i can use for this are my A900's however they're always plugged into my computer and its a pain to move my desk and reach back there everytime i want to listen to the tv. i currently use the AV710 which has a line in. i ran a cable from the back of the tv to the line in on the soundcard but i cant get sound on the computer.

ideally id like to keep the headphones plugged into the computer and just get the TV sound through the computer, however when i turn on the TV i get no sound. what program do i need to run so i can listen to the TV?

You can't get line-in if you're in high quality 2channel mode. If you're in plain 2 channel mode, check that the line in isn't muted and that the recording source is set to line in.
