I would like to start this thread out of sympathy with uncomfortable, but allegedly better sounding, volume controllers, in ss designs.

What I know of, is:

- Burson HA 160 (stepped)
- PS Audio GCHA (gain cell, discontinued)
- Headroom Max (stepped, discontinued)
- Sheer Audio HA-006++
- GS-1 (optional stepped) and GSX (stepped) of headamp.com
- custom amp by qeslabs.com (stepped)
- Goldpoint (stepped)
- Corda (stepped)
- Apache (stepped)
- TTVJ Slim Portable (stepped)

Please continue.

I have a vision of reviewing the less expensive ones in comparison in my analog system.

Lavry DA10/DA11 have about the most perfect volume control for my needs. 56 1db steps, digitally controlled to within .1db linearity & superbly documented.

All Meridian pre and integrated have stepped digital volume control.
Lots of new gear nowadays.
Analogue pots are from the past millenium..

Is it of the same principle as the digital volume control in a computer audio, namely, software volume control, or is it really analog, but digitally facilitated for more convenience? Grace headphone amp seems to have something like that digital volume control, I am not sure how it works though. Wasn't too impressed by Grace compared to Sugden Headmaster a couple of years ago (Sugden has just a normal pot).
