It sounds great now. And.....every set-up has it’s own slight personality, you may simply gel with yours.
Still it would be interesting to see how at some point you like a regular line-in. Meaning that many do do what your doing and have fantastic results. Who knows that may have something to do with how the Sony works?
But it would be interesting to have your opinion going simply RCA/RCA to your headphone amp from a line out from CD player. This way you actually have a base line using a regular line in. IMO
I don't have a CD player anymore. I rip CD's from my computer.
I think I might have a 3.5mm to to RCA cable.
It's weird, but in the last 10 years I have sold most of my sound gear and have never been more into music. I sold all my records and then a decade later I sold all of my CD's. Then I sold my whole 5.1 home theatre system. Then I sold my NAD amp, cassette deck, CD player and tuner.
All the while I have been buying speaker docks, DAP's, headphone amps, headphones, computer speakers and TONS of music.
When I do buy my next DAP, I will make sure it has Line Out ability. I thought briefly about it when I was waffling between Fiio X7ii and the Sony ZX300.
But it looks like your going digital out of the Sony DAP into the TA side connection? That’s what I do. But I use the cradle. Two used cradles in the forsake section at $100 each or $80 each for both.

yes I tried them all; the largest effect will be the balanced outputs which the TA has as headphone output with unknown impedance to me. did not try--yet

this setup yes. I have dozens of combos while I experiment. hence the equipment is on the floor for easy access. next week ill have a balanced dac ESS latest to compare.
I will be using the 4.4mm to XLR to run the Loxjie.
The amp is only $129.00 in Canada, but it will probably cost me close on $100.00 to get a 4.4mm to dual XLR cable and XLR to dual 3.5mm cable.
I picked up the Loxjie P20 and it arrived today, sadly with the right tube dead. . Amazon will be taking care of me and sending me a replacement, though it seems like it would be cheaper for them to send me two new tubes instead.
Similarly the P20 I ordered last month arrived with one of the stock Chinese tubes causing a bit of static/distortion. It was not discolored or anything so I swapped places with each tube and confirmed it was one tube causing the issue. When I ordered it from Amazon I also purchased the Russian 6N3P-E tubes from Riverstone and those do sound better w/o any odd noise.
I'm running it balanced from the XLR output of an RME ADI-2 DAC to the XLR inputs of the P20. As other owners have posted on a few other forums I agree it does open it up if you are feeding from a good balanced source. I also recently rolled some 5670 tubes from Raytheon and GE and these sound good with each adding their own sound characteristics. Be aware the older vintage tubes are shorter by a 1/3 and are difficult to remove after inserting them. So far I'm liking it and the price is nice. There are posts where owners took it apart to view the internals and it looks well put together. The metal casing does get warm and tubes are hotter so probably want to keep it ventilated if possible.
