Has anyone ever compared the Lau to the newer amps...us5,ferrum oor
I have compared to cfa 3 and oor. Oor is not even close to be honest. Oor has narrower staging and sound is harsher/grainier. Lau is smoother with punchier bass. Lau also felt more powerful and authoritative when driving Susvara. Detail wise wise Oor might surpass Lau.

Cfa3 is pretty good though. I would say comparable staging to Lau. Sound wise i think it really depends on your sound preferences. Cfa3 is more neutral sounding and has more of that solid state sound. Lau is smoother and has a bit of that tubey sound. Detail wise Cfa3 surpasses Lau.

I think here it really comes down to what headphones you will be running with them. Cfa3 was quite good with Susvara perhaps even playing to its strengths more than Lau was. Lau is good if you find Susvara too bright though. Lau pairs really good with Abyss headphones and most planars. For dynamic headphones there are definitely better amps than Lau.

Main weaknesses of Lau would be over smoothing aspects of the music and detail retrieval. For 2013 standards it was quite detailed but nowadays the new amps seem to really focus on maximum detail retrieval while Lau was really made for maximum musical enjoyment.

Thanks for sharing, I love this warm smooth sound of Lau, looks like I'll have to upgrade to a better tube amp😀

The Lau has been my only SS amp. All the time I have owned it I have had either a Woo WA5 or WA33 EE. The Lau has played well with all things ZMF(Auteur, VO, and now Caldera Open)and LCD-4 and 5. I do not use the Lau much but when I do it is usually with the Caldera. I had an Immannis for a week and it did not like either the Lau or the WA33. Perhaps neither liked the transformer or as a couple of people suggested the Immannis does not work well with the dCs Rossini Apex. That is Ok saving me $9000. The Lau complements the warmth inherent in the above mentioned headphones.

I would place the Ferrum Oor a step below the ifi iCan pro. If you're looking for a small compact amplifier, it pretty easily beats the Oor. The Liquid Gold is a step above both, but obviously takes up a lot more space. Putting the iCan pro with a higher quality power supply really improves it as well.
