Hey. I have been thinking about doing this for a while. I want to see what linux user's favorite music player, recorder and/or extractor is.

Mine would be - Sound Juicer CD extractor - flac.
For listening, I like VLC a lot, but I mainly use Amarock for last.fm capabilities.

so what are your's?

playing: audacious.

ripping: grip (cdparanoia + lame3.97 or flac1.2.1), but more often I tend to use EAC+AccurateRip in Windows

Recording: audacity (pretty much only for recording vinyl).

Playing: My wife uses Amarok (plays nice w/her zen) & I use MythMusic. I have seen several people mention MPD on the ArchLinux forum. I've never set it up though.

Ripping: Grip

Recording: None for Audio Only

I on occasion use audio-convert when I need to convert a lossless >> lossy (which is usually 320 CBR mp3's.)

Playing: Squeezebox/Slimserver mostly, but sometimes Audacious or XMMS. I used to use Amarok before I got the Squeezeboxes.

Ripping: KAudioCreator.

Recording: None currently.

Amarok and Exaile are the only linux music players i bother with, only because i have >12000 songs, and i can find things on the filesystem. Rhythmbox is nice, but just not enough that i prefer it over Amarok

On my home box I use Slimserver/Squeezebox exclusively. Ripping I do in windows, mostly because my CD catalog program is windows based.

On my notebook I use Quod Libet.

Grip for ripping, XMMS for playing (with old-school winamp skin)

Grip for ripping although I have been experimenting with rubyripper. I use mpd/sonata for playback.
