I am using my HM-901S as a transport/DAC with my car stereo and occasionally other home stereo systems. My connection setup is from line-out - lineout to red / white male rca cable - coupler - red and white male rca to aux cable - aux input. USB is not an option because the line-out to USB cable can only be used to read SD files.
I notice that with this configuration, the sound quality coming from the speakers varies in different systems, from crystal clear to heavily distorted, even at low volumes. I've noticed some hi-res files that sound distorted, and some standard 16/44 files that sound great, and vice versa. I tried adjusting the gain setting from high to low on the 901S with no noticeable difference in sound quality.
Can anyone tell me what is causing this distortion, and if there is there a fix for it?
